<div style="text-align: justify;">
Spurs were immediately ahead when Dele Alli slotted home from close range after Christian Eriksen's low shot had been parried.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The visitors were in complete control Son Heung-min almost made it 2-0, but his cheeky deft flick was pushed behind by keeper Declan Rudd.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But it didn't take long for Mauricio Pochettino's team to grab a second, as Kane stepped up up to convert from the spot after Rudd gave away a penalty.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
 </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Norwich were all at sea and Tottenham almost had a third but Kane's strike could only hit the post.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In the second-half Norwich thought they had brought themselves back into the game but Sebastien Bassong's strike was ruled out for offside.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Spurs comtinued to press and Kane saw another effort hit the woodwork late on. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But the England striker did grab his second soon after to complete a comfortable win for the north London club.</div>

The Brazilian gave Liverpool the lead but they were behind by the break thanks to Dieumerci Mbokani and Steven Naismith.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And while Norwich took a two-goal lead through Wes Hoolahan nine minutes after half-time, the Reds roared back to capitalise on some dire defending.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
First Jordan Henderson was set up by Firmino, who then scored the equaliser, before James Milner seized on a Russell Martin back pass to put the Reds ahead.</div>

</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
 </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Alex Neil had handed debuts to Ivo Pinto and Naismith, hoping to do something Norwich hadn't done since April 1994 and record a win over Liverpool.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In their 11 meetings since then, the Canaries had only managed two draws and conceded 19 in their last five games.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And the run of conceding continued just 18 minutes into the game when Firmino squeezed the ball under Declan Rudd to give Klopp's side the lead.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But it wasn't to last long and it was a familiar fashion in which the Reds conceded: a set-piece.</div>

</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
 </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Liverpool failed to clear a corner properly and the ball was headed back in towards Mbokani who was inexplicably allowed to take a touch, before cleverly back-heeling the ball in from just six yards.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Naismith scored his first Everton goal against Liverpool, and the Reds were the victims once again when the 29-year-old struck his forst for the Canaries five minutes from half-time.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A sleeping midfield failed to track the Scotsman's run into the box where he connected with a lovely reverse pass from Wes Hoolahan and smashed the ball low into the far corner with venom and accuracy.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Liverpool continued to look nervy in the face of a newly confident Norwich and things went from bad to worse when Alberto Moreno tripped Naismith twice in the penalty box.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
 </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Hoolahan stepped up to slot the spot-kick and give Neil's side a two-goal lead, but it would last only a minute.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For all their new-found attacking vim, Norwich were still frail at the back and left Henderson all alone from 12 yards and he swept the ball home.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And it was all square again as Klopp gave Lallana a chance to shine from the bench and he immediately picked out Firmino who took a touch and deftly lifted it over the keeper as calmly as he could.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There was still half an hour to go and for five minutes everyone took stock of what had been a manic 60 minutes of football.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And in a game dominated by defensive errors, it was fitting that Martin never even saw Milner as he attempted to send the ball 40 yards back to Rudd, and the veteran Englishman kept his cool to slot the ball home.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But there appeared to be one last sting in the tail as Bassong smashed home a brilliant left-footed shot from 20 yards to grab a stoppage-time draw.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And with Liverpool fans in despair, substitute Lallana latched onto a pinball in the Norwich box to give the away side the latest of late wins.</div>

<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
The ex-Shadow Chancellor took over as Norwich chairman on Boxing Day and helped spark a quick fix as the Canaries won their first two matches under his term of office. </div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
But now they’ve lost three in a row and unless he can find the funds for a major defensive overhaul City could miss out on next season’s £80million Premier League jackpot. </div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
The Canaries were hammered by fellow relegation rivals Bournemouth, £10million new boy Benik Afobe scoring his first Premier League goal. The defeat leaves Norwich just two places away from the drop zone. </div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Dan Gosling put the Cherries in front with a 10th-minute header. Sebastian Bassong managed to get in a clearance but the ball came out and Gosling beat Declan Rudd.</div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
 </div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Bournemouth are known as quick starters – their first half goal was the seventh time this season they’ve scored within 15 minutes – and they were even faster out of the blocks after the break. </div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Less than 40 seconds after the restart, Marc Pugh sidestepped Bassong’s ineffective challenge but fired straight at the keeper. </div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
It took a goal-line clearance to prevent Pugh getting on the score sheet but when the winger was pulled back by Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe a penalty was given.</div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
 </div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Charlie Daniels stepped up to make no mistake and the third came from another touchline run by the full-back whose centre was expertly finished off by Afobe. </div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Cherries boss Eddie Howe said: “We never let the momentum drop, scored a key second goal at a good time and kept a clean sheet.” </div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Canaries manager Alex Neil admitted: “There are no excuses for today.”</div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Harry Kane struck twice as Spurs ran riot over Norwich</td></tr>

</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
 </div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
The England trip to France was already a given. But the way he and Spurs stuffed Norwich's Canaries suggests some Champions League trips next season now look a distinct possibility.</div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Mauricio Pochettino's youngsters served up a festive fare that guaranteed him a merry Christmas - and an even happier New Year if this is anything to go by.</div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
To be fair, Spurs and Norwich didn't exactly look at opposite ends of the table to start with.</div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
In fact, if it hadn't been for the agility of birthday boy Hugo Lloris, Norwich would have been two up in less than 20 minutes.</div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
The French keeper had to go full stretch to keep out efforts from Ofoe and Robbie Brady - and the natives were understandably a little nervous.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
 </div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
But football, as they say, is a funny old game - although there was nothing funny about the way Kane fired Spurs in front on 25 minutes. Not for Norwich at any rate.</div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
The England striker was clean through when Declan Rudd brought him down in the box. No doubting it was a penalty, and no doubt either about the spot kick Kane took himself.</div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Suddenly dear Delia Smith must have been feeling a bit choked, and it had absolutely nothing to do with her cooking.</div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Her Canaries were starting to flap a bit and Rudd had to make two super saves, first from Toby Alderweireld and then Dele Alli, to stop revitalised Spurs from stretching their lead.</div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
The reason for the flap was there for all to see four minute before half time when that man Kane got Spurs' second. A true Christmas cracker from a player who is getting closer every day to the sensational form he showed last season.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
 </div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: justify;">
A swift counter attack involving Eric Lamela and Alli saw the ball laid off to Kane in space. He didn't need to be told twice what to do, and Rudd could do nothing about the rasping drive that flashed past him.</div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Even then Pochettino was far from happy with the way his side took their feet off the gas for a while after the break. And his angry shouts from the touchline echoed right round White Hart Lane never mind in his players' ears!</div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
Their response was pretty instant, though, and it needed at least three instinctive saves from Rudd to deny Alli and Lamela.</div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">
And when young Tom Carroll wrapped it all up with Spurs third just eight minutes after coming on for Christian Eriksen their fans had good reason to celebrate with the "he's one of our own" chorus they usually reserve for Kane.</div>
<div class="p1" style="text-align: justify;">

The Gunners suffered an early blow when Laurent Koscielny was forced off with a hip problem early on.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But after dominating possession for the first 30 minutes, they took the lead when Alexis Sanchez slipped a pass through the Norwich defence and Mesut Ozil deftly clipped the ball over the onrushing John Ruddy.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However Norwich got themselves level when Robbie Brady through ball cut through Arsenal's defence and found Lewis Grabban, who held off Gabriel and calmly finished past Petr Cech.</div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Diego Costa steals narrow win at Stamford Bridge</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
TO START every journey you need to take the first step.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
 </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Have Chelsea began their route back to the top? </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There’s still much, much more do but yesterday there was a certain swagger in their play that has been sorely missing of late. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There’s no denying they didn’t deserve to win yesterday but,  it was a another, long agonising wait where again their put their fans through the mincer. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But now there’s hope when it seemed there was none. And the other good news is that they are.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
 </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Diego Costa was the man who got Chelsea out of a hole when it seemed he was digging deeper into it. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The swarthy striker scored the kind of the goal that was once his trade-mark  but has mysteriously disappeared this season.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He was struck in the 63rd minute to suddenly put a smile on worried faces. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It also woke him up from a long slumber, in which he has fumbled and thrown away chances. None more so than against Norwich. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
 </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Yet he was very alert to a swift Cesc Fabregas free kick that for once caught Norwich’s splendid defence napping. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Fabregas lifted the ball over a back line still in retreat and Costa controlled the ball, made space for himself and then calmly curved into the far corner of the net. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was a trip down memory lane and erased all the bad bits that had gone before. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It also inspired several more flurries in which defender Kurt Zouma struck a post from Willian’s free kick and Nemanja Matic had a fierce shot saved by Norwich keeper John Ruddy. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Chelsea fans  chanted ‘champions, champions’ and for  long period that looked a distant memory.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Owner Roman Abramovic, whose billion-dollar yacht  usuallt scuds warm seas at this time of the year, was in the chilly stands offering his support. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When you are in a pickle, you need opponents that are almost cherry picked, or in this case canary picked.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
 </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So fly in Norwich. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
They hadn’t won in 22 years at Stamford Bridge and have failed to win their last 14 Premier League games in London. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Crossing the Thames proved yesterday to be another painful experience. They gave their all, but it was good enough.  </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It wasn’t as if their Canary claws were missing again, more a case of Chelsea finally bouncing off the ropes after weeks of being pummelled.  </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Norwich showed Chelsea are still vulnerable on the break and still lacking quality in midfield. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Eden Hazard’s appetite is returning, producing several mesmerising, runs that was the trade-mark of him winning last season’s Player of the Year award. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
What Chelsea did lack again was a striker who disturbed, a player with guile, pace and ability to find openings. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Costa is a bull of a man, a dark, swarthy warrior but he still prefers to batter doors rather than trying to find a better way through. He wasted a 25th minute, by ballooning over from right yards. It summed up his day until his late magical moment. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
His earlier attempts had been farcical, even those to try secure a penalty bordered on comical.  </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He wasted another chance just before the break, his delayed shot being superbly turned away by John Ruddy’s out-stretched legs. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Few encapsulated Chelsea’s new found spirit better than Brazilian midfield ace Willian. He seemed to be everywhere. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He has been one of the few leading lights in a season cast in shadow and again yesterday he orchestrated from the front. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He was, however, lucky not to receive more than a booking for throwing the ball into Sebastian Bassong’s face when he thought a throw-in went against him. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Bassong deserves credit for not going down and making more of the incident. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It summed Norwich up. Norwich are a tidy, fair, football playing side who you hope will avoid relegation.  They break fast, defend well, but just lack that cutting edge where it matters. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
They were also unlucky to come up against a defender like Kurt Zouma, who rarely put a foot, or header, wrong. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Their own defence also made a great fist of it, a colleague was rarely left isolated and they funnelled back in numbers whenever Chelsea were in full flow.  </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Manager Jose Mourinho stalked the touchline and in the end threw  his arm up in delight. It was that kind of day...and moment. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Chelsea: Begovic 6; Ivanovic 6, Zouma 7, Terry 7, Kennedy 6; Fabregas 6, Matic 6; Pedro 6 (Oscar 82)5, Willian 8 (Ramires 86)5, Hazard 6 (Azpilicueta 90); Costa 5. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Norwich: Ruddy 7; Wisdom 6, Bennett 6,  Bassong 7,  Olsson 6; Redmond 7, Howson 6 (Hoolahan 73) 5), Mulumbu 6 (Dorrans 73) 5, O’Neil  6, Brady 6;  Mbokani 6. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Star Man: Willian. While others have failed this season, the Brazilian has never faltered and agan he glued the side together. </div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Everton players celebrate progressing through to the quarter-finals of the League Cup</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
EVERTON'S record in the League Cup has become such a tale of under-achievement and missed opportunities that it seems they no longer know how to accomplish the straight-forward.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Roberto Martinez witnessed his side flirt with elimination for the third successive tie in this term’s competition before finally progressing to the quarter-finals for the first time since 2008 by virtue of penalties.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Joel Robles emerged as Everton’s hero, thwarting Wes Hoolahan from 12-yards, and then seeing Nathan Redmond miss the target, to apply another layer of polish on what had been an impressive personal display.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Spanish goalkeeper’s performance may have offered a reminder to Martinez that he possesses an able alternative to the jittery Tim Howard, but there appears to be no dilemma.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Robles will return to the substitutes’ bench against Sunderland on Sunday with his manager unequivocal.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“It's very clear (Tim will come back in),” said Martinez. “Joel has been playing in this competition and I trust him 100pc and the same way Tim Howard is a very, very influential member of our squad.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
 </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Nothing changes. Of course, we want to be better in terms of keeping clean sheets but it’s very easy and soft to look at the last man standing in the goal.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Tim has incredible standards and he can't be happy with the goals we conceded at the weekend. But there's not even a doubt in terms of Tim Howard starting at the weekend.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The win halted a run of four shoot-out defeats at Goodison Park, dating back to 1970 when Borussia Monchengladbach were defeated by a similar 4-3 margin with one of the Everton’s scorers Howard Kendall.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A giant picture of Kendall adorned the outside of the Main Stand, a striking show of respect to the former player and manager whose funeral takes place on Thursday.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And the fact that last of the two titles Kendall won was secured at Norwich in 1987 merely brought into focus how Everton do not make life easy for themselves as they bid to reprise former glories.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
